ACTION REQUEST (Brief Summary)
Consider approval of Resolution No. 10-XXX requesting consolidating County and City maintenance of birth and death records.
BACKGROUND
The Galveston County Health District maintains the birth and death records for all cities in Galveston County except for Texas City. Texas City has maintained its own records since 1911. The County is currently renovating the old WalMart building which is located in Texas City. The Galveston County Health District will move its offices there. The Mayor has met with Dr. Guidry concerning consolidating the records. City staff has also met with staff from the Galveston County Health District. The general consensus from both parties is that it would be beneficial to the citizens to centralize the records. Some of the benefits noted are as follows: Accessibility will still be in Texas City, the Health District provides additional services that the City is unable to provide, and the Health District will be able to compile all data from the County concerning various statistics on births and deaths.
