ACTION REQUEST (Brief Summary)
Approve an agreement with Joseph Hoover for architectural services. Fees for his services is 8.5% of the constuction costs. The contract is attached. The total construction costs including engineering, architectural, etc. is $850,000. All funds have been approved and are available in the 2010 fiscal year budget. The museum displays were approved previously and add an additional $650,000.
BACKGROUND
The City approved an agreement with Southwest Museum Services for new displays for the Texas City Museum. The current building needed modifications to meet codes. Over the past year various alternatives were explored and a decision was made to update the interior to meet codes, provide the proper wiring for the displays, and improve the facade. The tota project is budgeted and is for $1.5 million and includes the $650,000 already approved for Southwestern Museum services. Included in the attachments is a schedule that shows all of the work to be complete by December 2010, just in time to start the 2011 countdown to the September 100 year anniversary of The City of Texas City.
