ACTION REQUEST (Brief Summary)
Authorize remounting of two (2) units in keeping with the initial purchase strategy of re-mounting units.
BACKGROUND
Cost to remount two (2) units is $129,417.98 (HGAC cost) vs. the purchase of one (1) new ambulance for $150,000.00. The 2009 motor is discontinued; however, the ambulance manufacturer has 2009 chassis units available for immediate purchase. Additionally, the 2009 motor has a good durability record.
ANALYSIS
Replacing both chassis prior to new 2010 emissions requirement will save an estimated $10,000 to $14,000 and avoid purchase of a first year production engine of which we have no maintenance/durability information on.
ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED
Purchase one (1) new ambulance for a price of $150,000.00.
