Request approval of park hours throughout the City of Texas City.   

 
After incidences involving people in the parks late at night, it was noticed there are no set park hours except for two parks: Carver and Westland.  The ordinance proposed will amend the ordinance to include all parks and is worded that all parks will have posted hours, but if not posted the hours that they are closed are from 10 pm to 7 am unless the activity has been approved by the City.  This allows for special events, tournaments, scheduled play or practice which sometimes would exceed the 10 pm.  Nessler park will initially be posted for 5 am until midnight because of the activities, trails, hours of convention center, etc.  The requirement to have hours posted allow staff to review situations and make necessary changes.  Signs are being designed pending approval of the ordinance.  The Park Board Committee reviewed the idea of park hours with Recreation & Tourism staff and approved to apply the proposed hours to all City parks after staff review of each park. The Police Chief and City Attorney are in favor of the changes and the proposed hours.
