ACTION REQUEST (Brief Summary)
Consider and take action on Resolution No. 17-036, authorizing an application to TxDOT for Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail funding. (Planning)
BACKGROUND
Texas City and The Goodman Corporation have been working together, identifying transportation related projects and needs in the City and then looking for funding opportunities from agencies like H-GAC, TxDOT, and Federal Transit Administration.
Currently, TxDOT is seeking applications for projects under a Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program. This particular program is looking for sidewalks, trails, share-use paths, and other "alternative" type projects. Staff and Goodman have identified two projects that we feel are good candidates for this particular funding category; 1) extending an off-street trail along Bay Street, and 2) enlarging an existing trail at the north side of Bay Street Park (see attached maps).
The combined total project costs for both projects is estimated to be $394,000, and Goodman is recommending the City commit to a local match of $82,631
