ACTION REQUEST (Brief Summary)

Request approval of additional repair costs to Bid # 2010-229 Repairs & Painting of the 14th Street Elevated Storage Tank.

BACKGROUND

On October 6, 2010, the City Commission awarded the contract for the Repairs & Painting of the 14th Street Elevated Tank to DMS Painting, Inc., for the total bid amount of $134,900.00.  In addition, the Commission approved change  orders , not to exceed 25% ($33,725.00) of the total contract price. 

ANALYSIS

In the process of preparing the tank for repairs the water was drained and significant damage was found.  The additional work needed will result in a request of $42,700.00, which is in excess of 25%.  Therefore, I request the Commission approve the additional $42,700.00 to cover the cost which is over the 25% change order amount.  A list of the additional work is attached for your review.  Funds are available in the Water Distribution Expense-Supplemental Request Detail Capital Outlay Account.
