ACTION REQUEST
Consider and approve award of Community Grant to Baby Stewart Foundation, on behalf of Commissioner Knoxson, in the amount of $5,000 to assist the organization in providing hygiene items, clothing, and household essentials to Texas City families in need. Funds will also be used for venue expenses.
BACKGROUND (Brief Summary)
The Baby Stewart Foundation was founded by Ashley Gooden-Stewart in August 2015, shortly after the death of her 3 1/2-month-old son CJ Stewart. BSF’s mission is to provide working class families and individuals in need of baby necessities, hygiene products, clothing, car seat safety, and bereavement support at no cost. Grant funded services are to be provided in Texas City.
RECOMMENDATION
It is the recommendation of Mayor Johnson and the Director of Community Development & Grants Administration that the grant be awarded.
