Discussion and possible sponsorship for the Dr. Warren Nichols “Gone Fishing” retirement scholarship gala.
BACKGROUND
Dr. Warren Nichols has served as President of College of the Mainland (COM) since February 2017. During his tenure, COM has grown significantly with respect to both curriculum offered and updated or new facilities. Sadly, Dr. Nichols is retiring, and COM will be hosting the “Gone Fishing” retirement scholarship gala in his honor on April 26, 2025, from 6PM to 9PM.
Per the attached flyer, event sponsorship opportunities as well as table sponsorships are still available for the event. Staff would recommend a table sponsorship in an amount not to exceed $5,000.
Dr. Nichols and the TCEDC Board were instrumental in creating the COM Promise Keepers program that provides free education at COM for any graduating senior within COM's service area. This program helps to create jobs and employ local residents, all this being in line with the TCEDC's mission.
Funds are available in the City of Texas’s FY2024-25 annual budget from the Texas City Economic Development Corporation, Fund 801.
