ACTION REQUEST
Consider and take action to approve the award of a $5,000 Commission Community Grant to Galveston County Food Bank, on behalf of Mayor Pro Tem Thelma Bowie.
BACKGROUND (Brief Summary)
Since 2003, the Galveston County Food Bank has provided free, convenient access to nutritious foods for residents of Texas City and Galveston County. The grant request of $5,000 would assist the nonprofit in executing four major programs: agency services, mobile food distributions, home-bound nutritional outreach, and children's nutritional outreach. In 2024, these programs collectively served more than 7,000 Texas City residents, and funding in 2025 will help further address food insecurity among vulnerable populations in Texas City and Galveston County.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of Commission Community Grant award in the amount of $5,000 to Galveston County Food Bank, on behalf of Mayor Pro Tem Thelma Bowie.
