ACTION REQUEST

Consider and take action on authorizing the City of Texas City to enter into an agreement with T-Mobile to provide cell phone service.

BACKGROUND (Brief Summary)

The City of Texas City has been evaluating cellular providers over the past several months to determine whether transitioning to a different carrier could offer improved performance and cost savings. Based on this testing, the Innovation and Technology Department recommends selecting T-Mobile as the City’s primary cellular provider for mobile phones and data-enabled devices.
This transition is expected to provide faster service speeds and generate measurable cost savings for the City. No formal service agreement is required, as all devices and services will be procured through the Sourcewell cooperative contract #031924-SPT, ensuring compliance with purchasing requirements and competitively bid pricing.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommend approval to authorize the Mayor enter into an agreement with T-Mobile to provide cell phone service.

No additional funding is required to complete this transition. The only ongoing expense will be the monthly service fee, which will be lower than the current rates paid to FirstNet. This process consists of switching the majority of City cellular devices from FirstNet to T-Mobile, with all new equipment for the transition provided and cost fully covered by T-Mobile.
