BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

OCTOBER 26, 2017

CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM
 

The Texas City Historical Preservation Corporation Board of Directors met THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2017, at 5:00 PM, in the City Hall Conference Room, 1801 9th Avenue North, in Texas City, Texas. A quorum having been met, the meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM by Margaret Tuma with the following in attendance:

NEW BUSINESS
 
(a)
Consider and take action on election of officers and Oath of Officers.

It was decided to keep the same people as last year with Margret Tuma as Chairperson and Jose Boix as Vice Chairperson.  James Hartshorn, City Secretary, swore both members in.
 

Motion by Director JoAnn Hackbarth, Seconded by Chairperson Margaret Tuma to approve officers.

Vote: 7 - 0 CARRIED

 
(b)
Consider and take action on January 17, 2017, Texas City Historical Preservation Corporation meeting Minutes.
 

Motion by Vice-Chairperson Jose Boix, Seconded by Director JoAnn Hackbarth to approve the minutes.

Vote: 7 - 0 CARRIED

 
(c)
Consider and take action on Resolution No.17-01, approving the actions of the Officers of the Texas City Historical Preservation Corporation for previous fiscal year 2016-2017.

Dennis J. Harris, Director of Recreation and Tourism, stated this was needed to cover any expenditures that occurred over the prior year.
 

Motion by Director JoAnn Hackbarth, Seconded by Vice-Chairperson Jose Boix to approve Resolution No. 17-01.

Vote: 7 - 0 CARRIED

 
(d)
Consider and take action on Resolution No. 17-02, adopting the 2017-2018 fiscal year budget of the Texas City Historical Preservation Corporation.

Laura Boyd, Finance Director, went over the highlights of the budget.  Dennis J. Harris, Director of Recreation and Tourism, added that funds came out of the budget for exterior repairs and painting of the buildings at Heritage Square.
 

Motion by Director Terri O'Brien, Seconded by Director JoAnn Hackbarth to approve Resolution No. 17-02.

Vote: 7 - 0 CARRIED

UPDATES
 
(a)
 Updates on Texas City Museum.

Amanda Spears, Museum Curator, went over the 2017 Artifact Condition Report on the Westfield exhibit.  The City is required to provide the display for inspection from the Navy who has loaned the artifacts to the City.  Overall, the review was good.

She stated they are increasing the marketing area for the museum and targeting certain groups.  They are also looking at adjusting the fees as well as the reservation process.  Recruiting volunteers will be a priority as they are losing people to conduct the tours.

ADJOURNMENT
Having no further business, JoAnn Hackbarth made a MOTION to ADJOURN at 5:34 PM; the motion was SECONDED by Jose Boix. The meeting was adjourned.
