A Regular Called Meeting of the City Commission was held on Wednesday, JUNE 6, 2018, at 5:00 P.M. in the Kenneth T. Nunn Council Room in City Hall, Texas City, Texas. A quorum having been met, the meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. by Mayor Matthew T. Doyle.

Athletic Division (Recreation and Tourism)
Scott Latham, Athletics Coordinator, gave a PowerPoint presentations highlighting the City's Athletic Division. Mr. Latham stated that overall participation in tennis, volleyball, basketball and track and field, has improved since 2016.

PUBLIC HEARING
a.
Jerome Karam request to rezone from "E" (General Business) to "E-4" (Commercial Warehouse) to renovate an existing building for an indoor mini-warehouse storage facility. Being 3.0 acres out of a 7.155 acre tract known as Lot 3, Mall of the Mainland Plat. Located at 10,000 E.F. Lowry Expressway #3000. (Transportation and Planning)
Doug Kneupper, City Engineer, introduced Jerome Karam before the City Commission and explained why it is reccommended this project goes forward.

Motion by Mayor Pro Tem, Commissioner At-Large Phil Roberts, Seconded by Commissioner District 2 Abel Garza, Jr. to close the Public Hearing.

PRELIMINARY ZONING APPROVAL
a.

Barbra White stated that Texas City ISD will be hosting a Stuff The Buss school supplies event to service the Texas City - La Marque area schools. The event will be held on August 11, 2018, from 9 am - 4 pm at Walmart located at 6410 Interstate 45, La Marque, TX 77568..
STAFF COMMENTS
James Hartshorn, City Secretary, introduced Darcie Valenzuela as the new Marketing and Tourism Coordinator.
Darcie Valenzuela thanked the Mayor and City Commission for the opportunity to service the City.
Luke Alvey, Library Director, stated how well our cities youth are engaging in actives at Moore Memorial Public Library.
Laura Boyd, Finance Director, introduced Kristin Blomquist, Vice President of Masterson Advisors, LLC. Ms. Blomquist's company was approved in Resolution No. 18-053, naming them the Municipal Advisors for the City.
Dennis Harris, Recreation and Tourism Director, stated that the Month of June the City will be celebrating Juneteenth. On June 8th there will be a Gospel Fest starting at 7pm. On June 15th there will be a Poetry Slam from &pm - 9pm. There will also be a parade and zydeco dance on June 16th starting at 3 pm and a Golf Tournament on June 19th starting at 1 pm.
Officer Robert Minor introduced Texas City Police Departments newest recruit, Veronica De La Garza.

COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS
Commissioner At- Large Phil Roberts thanked Tom Munoz, Emergency Management Director, for the hard work and dedication he put into his Hurricane Preparedness Townhall Meeting. Mr. Munoz stated that over 175 residents got registered, while attending the meeting, to receive emergency messaging by phone and text.

Having no further business, Commissioner At-Large Phil Roberts made a MOTION to ADJOURN at 5:30 p.m.; the motion was SECONDED by Commissioner District 2 Abel Garza, Jr. All present voted AYE. MOTION CARRIED.
