Library Meeting Room
The Library Board of Directors Meeting met at 4:00 pm on Monday, February 24, 2025, in the Library Meeting room, in Texas City, Texas, with the following in attendance:

LIBRARIAN'S REPORT

2024 Library Award of Excellence
The Library Director was notified on February 10, 2025, that Moore Memorial Public Library was awarded the 2025 Library Award of Excellence by the Texas Municipal Library Director's Association, part of TML.

Programming update
Jessica Matos reviewed the following upcoming library programs: the new monthly Threadmasters Club, the new monthly Adult anime and manga club, monthly Ancestry Searchers program, the upcoming blood drive on March 1, Small Business Success Series, Understanding Alzheimers & Dementia, outdoor Family Portrait Day on April 12, Tote Bag Art on May 7, True Crime on May 13.
The library has subscribed to a new database: BlueCareer - to assist patrons who are interesed in persuing a career in one of the 100+ trades included.

Library staff attended an event at COM on 2/11; Jessica Matos and Maegan Rocio are attending a literacy event at a junior high in Dickinson ISD on 2/24; the Children's Librarian will be attending an event at Calvin Vincent Early Childhood Center on 3/6; library staff will attend the next Community Conversations with Mayor Johnson on 3/6

Family Place Library update
The first series of parent/child workshops is underway. We are calling it Play&Learn - 5 week series. Each week has a different topic and a community resource specialist who speaks with parents.
On 2/21, 9 families participated, which was wonderful.
The annual report for Family Place was submitted on 2/14.
There will be a parenting collection in the Children's Department - the new shelf is arriving on 3/3/25.

TexTreasures grant update: 2024 and 2025
2024: $50,000 - digitization is almost complete, UNT staff are working on the metadata. When that is complete the papers will be uploaded to the Portal to Texas History.

The next program for the Ancestry Searchers is: "The Karankawa: the recent resurgence of "extinct" Native Americans in Texas". 3/19 at 1:00pm

Discussion and approval of updated Circulation Policy
The draft policy was discussed by the Library Board and approved unanimously as written.
Other New Business: Donna Steele has resigned her position on the board. The Library Director is reviewing applications for a new appointment.

Bettie Rac: would it be possible for the next Battleship Texas program to be held in the evening, rather than at 1:00PM - so more people could potentially attend
