ACTION REQUEST
Consider and take action on Ordinance No. 2024-24 for recommended speed zones for FM 3436 as recommended by TxDOT on the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation.
BACKGROUND (Brief Summary)
On the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, TxDOT recommends the following speed limits be fixed by ordinance for vehicles traveling on the named streets and highways, towit:
(1) Along FM 3436 from the North City Limit of the City of Texas City to the Centerline of FM 517, a distance of approximately 1.597 miles, the speed limit shall be 55 miles per hour. (2) Along FM 3436 a school zone, from a point 3775 feet north of Morelock Lane to the point 2085 feet north of Morelock Lane, a distance of approximately 0.320 miles, the speed limit shall be 35 miles per hour when flashing.
RECOMMENDATION
Upon review of the engineering and traffic investigation by an independent professional traffic operations engineer (P.T.O.E) the City Engineer recommends approval of the TxDOT recommended speed limits indicated for vehicles traveling upon the named streets and highways.
