RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council approve an Amendment to the prime contract for design services of New City Hall with Johnson, Laffen, and Galloway Architects (JLG) to include electrical fault study, electrical engineering services, and architectural coordination.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
JLG will contract with Cushing Terrell to conduct a full building electrical fault study.
Scope of work will include
- Short circuit study to evaluate the amount of fault current at each piece of electrical gear. The findings will be compared to gear fault ratings to ensure they are adequate.
- Coordination study to evaluate breaker and fuse settings/sizes and make recommendations according to findings. The recommendations that come from this study will help to minimize faults if they do happen.
- Arc flash study to evaluate potential of arc flash at each piece of electrical gear. After testing each piece of equipment will be labeled with arc flash sticker indicating level of arc flash potential.
This increased electrical scope will not impact the construction schedule.
