Staff recommends the City Council approve the purchase of three (3) 2024 Broombear sweepers from Joe Johnson Equipment in the amount of $980,127 less $87,000 trade for a net amount of $893,127.

The purchase of three (3) Broombear Sweepers is included in the approved FY24 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) and FY24 Street and Traffic budget.  Street sweepers are a vital part of operations as they not only keep the streets clean, but are also necessary for stormwater permit compliance.  Staff is recommending procurement of the equipment using the cooperative purchasing agreement (Sourcewell), as the pricing is similar to competitive bid pricing.  By using Sourcewell to procure similar equipment, we can keep fewer parts on the shelf, as the normal wear items are interchangeable between 6 sweepers, saving thousands of dollars in stocked parts.  

 

City Council may:

• Approve purchasing the three (3) 2024 Broombear sweepers; or,
• Not approve the purchase.  If not approved the sweepers will likely see extensive repair costs and downtime as the sweepers have reached their useful life.  Extended downtime will result in diminished customer service levels citizens have come to expect.

The Broombear sweepers were budgeted in FY24 using Street and Traffic funds.  There is sufficient budget available for this purchase.
