BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The Billings Fire Department and the Billings Police Department would like to present the Honorable Mayor and City Council with an executive update on our departments’ existing Unmanned Aerial System (drone) Programs. These programs help ensure the safety of our community and personnel while respecting our citizens' civil rights and privacy. So far, these programs have been successfully used to search for lost or missing people, assist in geological monitoring of the changes in the BBWA canal, apprehend fugitives, assist other City offices, and observe crime scenes from a safe distance. We believe that UAS systems will have untold positive effects in the future and represent smart, budget-minded use of technology.
