RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the approval of the Broadcom (formally VMware) Virtual Server 3 Year License Renewal in the amount of $96,624.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The City of Billings has utilized VMware Virtual Server software/licenses to support and manage all of our in-house hosted core network servers for 15+ years. We generally purchase 1-Year renewals, however, VMware was recently purchased by Broadcom which requires us to purchase 3-Years of service with equal annual payments. We don't foresee moving away from the VMware platform as there are no real options available in the market plus the VMware solutions are very robust, reliable, and have served us well for many years. This also locks in our pricing for the next 3 years. This purchase is being made through High Point Networks through a State of Montana/NASPO Contract: SCRA-HPN-110921.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve; the 3-Year renewal of Broadcom/VMware Virtual Server Licenses or,
- Not Approve
FISCAL EFFECTS
The total cost of the 3-Year renewal from Broadcom for our Virtual Server Licenses is $96,624. The City of Billings would pay $32,208/yr for the FY25, FY26, and FY27 budget years. This purchase is being made through High Point Networks through a State of Montana/NASPO Contract: SCRA-HPN-110921.
