Staff recommends the City Council approve the purchase of Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride for $176.00 per ton from Desert Mountain for one year with the option of purchasing the material for years two and three based on the mutual consent of the City and the Supplier.

The Public Works Department uses Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride material on City streets and roads during the winter months as an aid in ice and snow removal.  On average, between 800 and 2,000 tons of this material is used in a snow season. The bid for the Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride material was advertised on December 20 and 27 in the Yellowstone County News and on the City's website.  Bids were opened on January 7, 2025 and 2 bids were received.  Desert Mountain submitted the lowest responsible bid.

City Council may:

• Approve the award for the purchase of the Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride material; or,
• Not approve the award for the purchase of the Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride material.  If not awarded, the Public Works Department will not be able to place material at the intersections to help melt snow which will increase safety concerns and diminish the level of service citizens have come to expect.

The Corrosion Inhibited Solid Sodium Chloride material is budgeted in FY25 using Street and Traffic Funds.  The price is a 10% increase over the price in the current agreement which was anticipated for this product.  There is sufficient budget to award this bid.
