RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council accept the $2,500 donation from the Rimrock Federal Credit Union.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Per council policy, any donations exceeding the amount of $500 must be approved by City Council. This is a $2,500 donation from the Rimrock Federal Credit Union and must be approved by the City Council. These funds have been donated specifically to the anti-graffiti fund to support Code Enforcement's continued efforts to abate graffiti.

BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)

In April of 2024, City Council approved by resolution to create an anti-graffiti fund in accordance with BMCC Section 18-1116.  The fund is used for rewards for information on graffiti taggers, materials to abate graffiti, and can also be used for graffiti mitigation projects such as murals.  This donation will add to the fund, bringing the current balance to approximately $10,574.

The reward system has been advertised to the public; however, no one has come forward to date with information leading to the arrest of a graffiti tagger so no rewards have been paid out of this fund.

The Code Enforcement Division also is pursuing ongoing graffiti abatement activities City-wide and also is working on some mural projects to discourage graffiti on public and private infrastructure across the community.

FISCAL EFFECTS

There is only positive impact to the General Fund or Code Enforcement's main budget as the funds will be placed in the anti-graffiti fund to support graffiti abatement and issuance of graffiti rewards.

STAKEHOLDERS

The community is benefiting from the formation of this fund and the generous donations we have received to date.  This fund has provided support to the Code Enforcement Division's efforts to abate graffiti city-wide.

ALTERNATIVES

The City Council May:
  • Approve the donation of $2,500 to the anti-graffiti fund; or,
  • Not approve the donation of $2,500 to the anti-graffiti fund. Not approving the donation would be contrary to the Council forming the anti-graffiti fund and encouraging a public-private partnership to fight graffiti in the community.
