RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommend that City Council accept the donation from Scheels in Billings in the amount of $2,000 for the Youth and Senior Scholarship Fund.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Billings Parks & Recreation Youth & Senior Scholarship Fund provides youth and senior adults in our community access to recreational programs for individuals and families who may not otherwise be able to afford them. These scholarships provide participants with exposure to positive experiences, social connections, and active lifestyles.  Through our programs, children and senior adults are given the opportunity to gain and refine life skills, improve health and wellness, and develop positive personal and social connections. All donations to this fund go directly to support scholarships for Billings’ youth and senior adults.

BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)

Council policy requires that any donation exceeding $500 be approved by City Council.  As part of their "Day of Giving," the Scheels store in Billings generously donated $2,000 to the Youth and Senior Scholarship Fund, through the Partners for Parks Foundation, to benefit children and seniors in the Billings community.  This is the fifth year in a row that Scheels has made a donation to the Fund.

FISCAL EFFECTS

There will be no additional fiscal impacts to the City's General Fund.
