Dash for Dog Parks Fun Run

PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

A race route has been requested for the following event:

Who: City of Billings Parks
Event: Dash for Dog Parks Fun Run
Date and Time: Saturday, August 13, 2011 6:30 am to 11:30 am
Where: High Sierra Park to Wicks Lane, the 2K will continue to Fantan and the 5K will continue to Matador, Vesca Way, Sierra Granda, Morocco and back to Wicks Lane to the park. 

Recommended conditions of approval include City of Billings Parks:
  1. Provide the required certificate of insurance
  2. All course guards (flaggers) shall wear proper safety apparel, use approved STOP/SLOW paddles and one representative shall be a CERTIFIED TRAFFIC CONTROLLER for the event
  3. Provide and install adequate signage to notify motorists of the event
  4. Clean the area to be used

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

The Council may:
• Approve the request to use the above residential streets for the run/walk event; or
• Deny the request

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Administrative time to process the permit is offset by the application fee. Police assistance, traffic control, and litter removal are to be paid for by the Parks Division. 

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that Council approve the use of the residential streets listed above for the annual Dash for Dogs Fun Run event.
