The City received bids on June 14th for W.O. 10-29 WWTP West Mechanical MCC Replacement and Improvements. The purpose of this project is to replace aging Motor Control Center (MCC) Panels at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the West Mechanical Building.  The project will include the replacement of the MCC Panels, new wiring to all the associated equipment from the MCC Panel, and replacement of the Waste Activated Sludge Pump Variable Frequency Drives. 

Following the bid opening, Staff requested postponement to July 11 so there would be time to review the bids.  Staff completed the review and, based upon it, recommends contract approval.

However, at the July 11 meeting, Council postponed the item to Aug. 8 because it was a capital item in the FY 2012 budget, which had not yet been approved.   Later in the July 11 meeting, the Council approved the FY 2012 budget. Staff now asks that the Council consider adding this item to the July 25 Consent Agenda, rather than waiting until Aug. 8, so work can begin sooner.

A 3/4 vote of the Council members present on July 25 would be needed to add this item to the consent agenda.  A simple majority then would be required for approval.

The Council is asked to add this item to the July 25 Consent Agenda and then may:
•Award the contract for W.O. 010-29 to Action Electric in the amount of $618,000.00; or
•Reject all bids and do not award the contract for W.O. 10-29

Funding for this project is from FY' 2011 wastewater revenues.

Staff recommends that Council add the item to the Consent Agenda of July 25, 2011, and then award the contract for Work Order 10-29 WWTP West Mechanical MCC Replacement and Improvements to Action Electric in the amount of $618,000.00.
