Replacement of the existing Unit #0227, Landfill Track-Type Tractor (Dozer) was approved in the FY2010 budget under the guidelines of the Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP).  A supplemental budget request was also approved to upgrade this current 55,000 pound dozer to an 83,000 pound dozer, which is the next larger size.  Specifications were developed by Solid Waste Division staff and distributed to eight vendors.  A call for sealed bids was published October 15th and 22nd, with bids opened October 27, 2009.  The bid was structured to allow the city to trade the used dozer in on purchase of the new machine or sell the used dozer separately.

The Council may:

• Award the bid as recommended; or
• Not award the bid.

The Solid Waste Division's FY2010 budget includes adequate funds to replace the current Landfill Track-Type Tractor (Dozer).  We received three bids as follows:

It is recommended that the used dozer Unit #0227 be traded in toward purchase of the new machine from the low bidder, Tractor & Equipment Company.

Staff Recommends that Council award the contract for purchase of a new Landfill Track-Type Tractor (Dozer) for the Solid Waste Division to Tractor & Equipment Co. in the amount of $497,816, which includes the trade of used Dozer Unit #0227.
