The Distribution and Collection Division of the Public Works Department FY2012 Budget includes funds to replace two older dump trucks.  Both trucks are scheduled for replacement in the Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP).  The Public Works Department received bids for purchasing two 2012 56,000 GVW 8-yard dump trucks.  Both of the old trucks will be traded, so the trade in value is reflected in the net price submitted by the bidders.  In addition to the day to day operational uses of the trucks, the truck specifications were written to allow the use of snow plows on the trucks.

The Council may:

• Award the bid as recommended; or
• Not award the bid and the existing trucks will be kept in service longer than the recommendations from the Equipment Replacement Program.

The invitation for bids was advertised on October 13 and 20, 2011.  There is sufficient money in the FY 12 budget to cover the award.  Eight bids were received on October 25, 2011, as follows:

Staff recommends that Council award the bid for two (2) new current model 2012 56,000 GVW 8-yard dump trucks to the low bidder, Motor Power Equipment Co., in the amount of $225,368.00.  This includes the new trucks, trading in the old trucks and the 5-year warranty on the transmission and engine.
