PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

The ConocoPhillips Company - Billings Refinery notified the Police and Fire Departments that they are eligible for a $12,000 company grant.  ConocoPhillips designated $6,000 to fund Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) training.  The SRO's have attended several training opportunities with the assistance of funding such as this.  ConocoPhillips designated $6,000 for the Fire Department which will be used for public education/fire safety programs.  The City must submit a written application to obtain the grant funds. 

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

The City Council may:

  • Approve the application submittal and finalization of the 2013 ConocoPhillips Company Grant, or
  • Do not approve the application submittal and finalization of the 2013 ConocoPhillips Company Grant, which would result in the cancellation of SRO training and public education/fire safety programs due to non-existant funds.  
     

FINANCIAL IMPACT

There is no impact to the General Fund as there is no City match required for this grant. 

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that City Council approve the submittal of the 2013 ConocoPhillips Company Grant application and acceptance of the grant award in the amount of $12,000 for the Billings Police and Fire Departments.
