On the afternoon of January 20, 2010, Sam's Club distributed $38,000 in grants to 20 organizations.  The Fire Department received a $2,500 check from Sam's Club.  The Fire Department plans to use the donation to purchase smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers for people who can't afford them.  City Council is being asked to approve acceptance of the $2,500 donation from Sam's Club for the purchase of smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.

The City Council may:

• Approve acceptance of the $2,500 donation check for the purchase of smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers; or
• Not approve the acceptance of the $2,500 donation check for the purchase of smoke & carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers for people who can't afford them.

Staff recommends approval of accepting the $2,500 donation offered by Sam's Club for the purchase of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers.
