PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

Two bids were received by the Street/Traffic Division on October 28, 2014 to purchase a 2015 Aerial Truck.  This aerial truck will be used for working on the City's street light systems.  The existing street light aerial truck is used for streetlights and tree maintenance of alleys, boulevards and other city right of ways for the Street/Traffic Division.  The purchase of this new truck will allow the new truck to be primarily dedicated for use for street light work and the existing truck will be primarily dedicated to tree maintenance work.  This truck is a new purchase and is included in the FY 2015 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) previously approved by City Council and funding is included in the FY2015 Public Works Department budget. 

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

City Council may:
  • Approve the purchase of the 2015 Aerial Truck, or;
  • Disapprove the purchase of the 2015 Aerial Truck.  If not approved, the existing truck will be required to continue to split between street light work and tree maintenance work.
     

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The funding is included in the Public Works Budget for the Street/Traffic Division for FY 2015.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends approving the bid for a 2015 Aerial Truck in the amount of $154,635.00 from I-State.  Staff also recommends purchasing the 5 - year engine and transmission warranty for $1,896.00, for a total bid amount $156,531.00.
