PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT

WO 13-03, City Crack Seal is part of the 2013 Street Maintenance Program.  The original contract amount was expected to be adequate to crack seal 35 miles of city streets.  The contract amount is based on average width and number of cracks per block of street.  Several of the streets had wider and more extensive cracks than was estimated which has increased the sealing quantity on those streets. A change order is required to increase the contract amount an additional $46,200.00 to reconcile quantities with the contractor and finish out the additional streets.  The FY2015 budget is adequate to cover this change order.  Contract time will be extended to allow for completion of the project.

ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED

The Council may:
  • Approve Change Order #2 for W.O. 13-03, City Crack Seal to Hardrives Construction Inc. for an additional amount of $46,200.00; or
  • Do not approve Change Order #2.  If this change order is not approved, the remainder of the work cannot be finished under this contract.  

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Funding for Work Order 13-03 City Crack Seal was included in the FY 14 budget.

Change Order #2 $46,200.00
Contract with approved Change Order $200,742.00

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the City Council approve change order #2 for W.O. 13-03, City Crack Seal for an additional amount of $46,200.00.
