PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Billings Fire Department is one of the first agencies in this area that is dispatched to a water rescue in lakes and rivers, including the Yellowstone River. The department does not have water craft to make initial water rescues or to assist other first responder agencies. ExxonMobil would like to donate two (2) personal watercraft, or jet skis, and a trailer to the department. The estimated value is $9,600 and per Administrative Order, any donation over $500 requires Council approval. This equipment can also be used to assist in mitigating pollution and oil spill / chemical hazards impacting local waterways.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may choose to
- accept or
- to not accept two jet skis and a trailer from ExxonMobil.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The cost to maintain and operate this equipment is minimal and does not require additional funding.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve ExxonMobil's donation of two jet skis and a trailer, with an estimated fair market value of $9,600.
