PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
Bids were received and opened on August 8, 2017 to purchase a new side load garbage truck to replace existing unit number 0169 for the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department. Staff advertised for sealed bids on July 14, July 21 and August 4, 2017. This replacement is included in the FY 2018 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) and the FY 2018 budget for the Solid Waste Division. The existing truck number 0169 will be traded as part of this purchase. Bid results and a staff recommendation for award will be included in the Friday, August 11, Council packet and presented at the City Council meeting.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may:
- After being presented with bid results, approve purchasing the new side load garbage truck from the recommended bidder or;
- Disapprove the purchase and reject all bids. If the new truck is not purchased, the Public Works Department will be required to continue using the existing unit that is at or near the end of its useful life. Maintenance costs will increase and reliability will decrease.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Solid Waste Division's FY 2018 budget includes adequate funds to replace the vehicle described. Bid results will be included in the Friday packet and presented at the Council meeting.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council award the contract for a new side load garbage truck, after being presented with bid results. This includes the new truck and trading in existing unit number 0169.
