The $1,000 donation from Billings Firefighters Local 521 will be used to purchase childrens' plastic fire helmets. Accepting this donation would provide the Fire Department with a popular give-a-way for school fire safety programs, National Fire Prevention Week and fire station open house visits. City policy requires that any donation exceeding $500 must be accepted by the City Council before the funds can be expended.

City Council may choose to approve or disapprove accepting the donation in the amount of $1,000 to purchase childrens' fire helmets.

Acceptance of this donation will allow the Fire Prevention Bureau to purchase plastic fire helmets that will be distributed at fire station open houses during Fire Prevention Week and during other public fire safety education events throughout the year.

Staff recommends that the City Council accept the $1,000 donation from Billings Firefighters Local 521 for the purchase of childrens' plastic fire helmets to be used as public education handouts.
