PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Solid Waste Division has a damaged 2010 Mack Side Load truck (Unit 0169). Staff has removed all parts that can be utilized for other trucks. LKQ Heavy Truck has offered to purchase the remaining salvaged truck for $7,500 and haul it away. The recycling centers were contacted and will not accept this truck. Staff believes that selling the truck to LKQ Heavy Truck is the most cost effective option for the City of Billings. The City Council must approve all property disposal.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may:
- Approve selling salvaged Unit 0169 to LKQ Heavy Truck for $7,500, or;
- Disapprove selling salvaged Unit 0169 to LKQ Heavy Truck. The truck will be put in the City of Billings Auction with no guarantee of purchase.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Solid Waste fund would receive $7,500 in FY19.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve selling salvaged Unit 0169 to LKQ Heavy Truck.
