PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Plains First Responder Grant Program funds the resource and training needs of nonprofit emergency response and public safety organizations whose programs align with their values and goals in the communities where Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. operates. It supplies funds for improvements that will have a lasting, measurable impact and a direct benefit to the safety or preparedness of response organizations and is one way for Plains to provide equipment to the men and women who risk their lives daily for their communities.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
City Council may Approve or Disapprove accepting the $8,350 grant for the purchase of technical rescue equipment for the Billings Fire Department.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
These funds will be used to purchase much needed technical rescue equipment that will be used in incidents that involve confined space, vertical or structural collapse at industrial sites such as refineries or pipeline terminals as well as the west-end of Billings which has a large number of natural and manmade rescue hazards, including miles of cliff and canyon terrain, confined spaces and highways. An organization is eligible to receive a Plains All American First Responder Grant only once every three (3) years.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends accepting the $8,350.00 awarded by the Plains First Responder Grant Program, Plains All American Pipeline, L.P., Houston, TX.
