RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council award the 5 year contract for electronic waste collection to Green Technology Solutions in the amount of $150.00/ton and a maximum amount of $30,000 per year.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The landfill has a designated location for the public to drop off electronic waste. The amount of electronic waste being disposed of at the landfill has been steadily increasing each year. Contracting with a private company to remove the waste instead of disposing of these wastes into the landfill saves landfill space and allows the electronic waste to be recycled. The bid was advertised on August 14, 21 and August 28th, in the Yellowstone County News and on the City’s website. Bids were opened on September 1 and one bid was received.Green Technology Solutions submitted the lowest, responsible bid.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve the award of the electronic waste collection to Green Technology Solutions in the amount of $150.00/ton and a maximum amount of $30,000 a year. or;
- Disapprove the award of the electronic waste collection and reject all bids. If the project is not awarded, the electronic waste brought by residents would be deposited in the landfill and some of this waste may contain hazardous materials.
FISCAL EFFECTS
The following bids were received:
While there was only one bid, staff believes it is a fair price for the service as it is currently costing $500/ton for the monthly electronic waste collection. The project was budgeted in FY21 using solid waste funds. The amount budgeted was $30,000.00 a year.
