RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council hold a public hearing and approve this ordinance on first reading, adding recently annexed property to Ward III.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
City election ward boundaries must be adjusted to conform to city limit amendments resulting from annexation of property into the City. Chuck Hogan and Rick Dorn, on behalf of Hogan Properties (contract buyer) submitted a petition to annex land using the provisions of Section 7-2-4600, MCA. The subject property is Certificate of Survey 1121, Tract 2-A-1, totaling approximately 4.350 gross acres. The property is zoned Controlled Industrial (CI) and has a metal pole building on site. The parcel is located south of the South Frontage Road and north of the Grey Eagle Ditch.
Upon Council approval, this annexation requires a change in the boundaries of Ward III. Two readings are required for this action. The first reading of the ordinance is tonight at this Council meeting, along with a public hearing, and the second reading is scheduled for December 14, 2020.

ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve the ordinance modifying the boundary of Ward III, or;
- Not approve the ordinance. Disapproval will not modify the boundary of Ward III and will create a problem where property inside the City Limits is not within a City Ward.
FISCAL EFFECTS
There is no budget/financial impact from this action.
