RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of replacement parts for wastewater pumps in the amount of $154,540.00, plus approximately $1,000.00 shipping costs.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The Secondary Pumping Station at the Water Reclamation Facility utilizes five (5) large vertical turbine pumps to transfer wastewater from the primary clarifiers to the secondary treatment process. These pumps move the entire wastewater flow of the city, approximately 20 million gallons every day. These pumps are critical equipment to the operation of the Water Reclamation Facility and therefore are rebuilt on a routine schedule. The proposed purchase of these replacement parts will allow for the continued preventative maintenance of these pumps.
Cascade Pump Company was the manufacturer of the five (5) vertical turbine pumps and they also manufacture the replacement parts. Purchasing from Cascade Pump Company allows the Water Reclamation Facility to keep fewer replacement parts on-hand and save money.

ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve the purchase of replacement parts for the wastewater pumps in the amount of $154,540.00, plus appoximately $1000.00 shipping or;
- Disapprove the purchase of the replacement parts. If not approved, the routine maintenance of the pumps will not proceed and the pumps could eventually fail and require total replacement. This would lead to increased costs and decreased reliability.
FISCAL EFFECTS
The purchase was budgeted in the FY21 wastewater budget in the amount of $135,000. The cost of the pump replacement parts exceeds the budget by approximately $20,000 due to the purchase of a duplicate bowl assembly, impeller, and shaft for the pumps. These duplicate parts allow flexibility to replace any one of the five pumps in the event of failure. The additional $20,000 will come from cost savings on other wastewater capital projects.
