The Street/Traffic Division of the Public Works Department is scheduled to replace three (3) 56,000 GVW, 10 yard dump trucks in FY 2011.  When preparing specifications earlier this year, staff inadvertently advertised for only one (1) vehicle replacement.  Two bids were received on September 28, 2010 to purchase one truck with a snow plow assembly and sander.  Council approved this purchase at its October 12, 2010 meeting. 

The low bidder will provide the two remaining 10-yard dump trucks, plows and sanders at the same cost to the Street/Traffic Division and staff requests that Council approve the purchase.  The replacement of these existing two 10-yard dump trucks was approved by the City Council in the FY11 budget and in the Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP).  One of the existing dump trucks will be traded to the vendor and the other one will be transferred to the Solid Waste Division.  A 5-year warranty was requested and staff recommends that the warranty be approved for both units.

The City Council May:

• Approve the purchase of two, 10-yard dump trucks with plow and sander from I-state in the amount of $311,128.00, or
• Disapprove the recommendation and direct staff to rebid for the dump truck replacements, or
• Disapprove the recommendation and do not replace the dump trucks this year.

Staff recommends purchasing two, 56,000 GVW 10-yard dump trucks with snow plow assemblies and sanders for the net price of $314,378 from I-State, which includes trading unit 1154 to the dealer for $15,000 and the 5-year warranties for $3,250.00.  Staff also recommends transferring Unit 1157 to the Solid Waste Division.
