RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council approves the purchase of a 2021 Aerial Lift Truck from Altec, Inc. in the amount of $126,029.00 which includes the trade amount of $10,000.00 and a 5-year warranty in the amount of $5,137.00.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The purchase of the 2021 aerial lift truck will replace an existing aerial truck and is included in the FY22 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP). The existing aerial truck will be traded in as shown in the fiscal effects. The 2021 aerial lift truck was advertised on August 6th and August 13th, 2021, in the Yellowstone County News and on the City’s website. Bids were opened on August 17th and two bids were received. Altec Inc. submitted the lowest, responsible bid.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve purchasing the 2021 aerial lift truck; or,
- Not approve the purchase. The existing unit is nearing the end of its useful life. Several costly repairs have been incurred already and more repairs are anticipated on the problematic exhaust system.
FISCAL EFFECTS
The City received two bids for the 2021 aerial lift truck as shown below:
The 2021 aerial lift truck was budgeted in FY22 using Street Maintenance funds. The amount budgeted was $223,608. This bid was lower than the budget due to the decision to purchase a truck with a smaller footprint. The remaining budget will be used for any future unanticipated costs for equipment.
