PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
Bids were received by the Distribution and Collection Division of the Public Works Department on November 23, 2010, to purchase one 2011 5-cubic yard jet cleaner and manhole vacuum system. This new unit would replace an existing sewer jet and its purchase is included in the FY11 budget and the Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP). City Council is being asked to approve the purchase from the only bidder.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Approve the purchase of the 2011 Sewer Jet Cleaner and Manhole Vacuum System from Titan Machinery, Inc.; or
- Reject all bids and not purchase the 2011 Sewer Jet Cleaner and Manhole Vacuum System.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The invitation for bids was advertised on November 11 and 18, 2010. Titan Machinery, Inc. submitted the only bid. Their bid was for a gross price of $262,776.07, a trade in value of $35,000 and five year warranty for $3,238.00, resulting in the recommended net bid of $231,014.07. There is sufficient money in the FY 11 budget for the Wastewater Replacement/Depreciation Fund to cover the purchase.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the purchase of a 2011 Sewer Jet Cleaner and Manhole Vacuum System to Titan Machinery, Inc. in the amount of $231,014.07 which includes trading-in the present sewer jet and a five-year warranty on the new unit.
