BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
The Billings-Yellowstone County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is conducting a Safe Routes to School Plan, Phase 2. Sanderson Stewart was hired to complete this plan. The plan considers concerns and opportunities along students' routes to school at a variety of schools including Billings Public Schools Middle Schools and private and county schools within the Billings Urbanized area that serve elementary students or middle school students. The plan also includes two private high schools. The plan will recommend safety improvement projects to make routes to school safer and create walking route maps for the schools. Please see below for the complete list of schools.
This is a mid-way presentation on the plan designed to keep the Council informed of progress on the plan. Presentation topics will include information about the plan's timeline, public outreach, data collection, and work that will happen in the coming months including the development of walking route maps, analysis of potential Rural Special Improvement Districts, and more. The presentation will also include a brief demonstration of how to use the online interactive map and survey. The interactive map will remain open for comments until the end of May 2023.
Sanderson Stewart will return to present the final results of the plan to the Council as part of the plan adoption process later this summer. At that time, the Council will be asked to forward a recommendation for plan adoption to the Policy Coordinating Committee.
