RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the submittal of the Town Pump grant and allow the City to accept the grant funds, if awarded.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
In 2022, the City of Billings was awarded a $50,000 Our Town grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Our Town grant is funding the City's Mobilize the MAGIC City project which has been working with an artist for a year to develop a formal process to involve art and artists in everyday civic life. Local artist, Terri Porta, was selected as the Artist-In-Residence for this project. Ms. Porta is creating two placemaking hubs along Billings' first neighborhood bikeway. In addition, Mobilize the MAGIC City is contracting with Lauren Monroe, Jr. and Mariah Gladstone to create an Indigenous Identity hub near North Park. This Town Pump grant would help fund up to $5,000 of Mobilize expenses to help finish the project.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve; or,
- Not Approve submittal of the grant.
FISCAL EFFECTS
