Staff recommends purchasing two 37,000 GVW single axle trucks with dump/sander/plows from I-State Truck Center in the total amount of $372,004, which includes a trade amount and a 5-year engine/transmission warranty.  

The purchase of two (2) dump trucks is included in the approved FY24 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) and FY24 Street & Traffic budget.  These dump trucks are a vital part of operations, keeping the streets safe throughout the year as they haul materials such as road base and asphalt during the summer and plow and sand during the winter months. This purchase will replace existing units which will be traded in. 

The trucks were advertised on March 22nd and 29th in the Yellowstone County News and on the City's website.  Bids were opened April 2, 2024.  Two bids, both from I-State, were received.  Although only one vendor submitted bids, the bids were less than the budgeted amount and the pricing is comparable to market conditions in the region.

City Council may:

• Approve purchasing the two 37,000 GVW Single Axle Trucks with Dump/Sander/Plows; or,
• Not approve the purchase.  If not approved, the dump trucks will likely see extensive repair costs and downtime as these units are nearing the end of their useful life.  Extended downtime will result in diminished customer service levels citizens have come to expect.

The budgeted amount of the equipment is $437,958.00.  The City received 2 bids for the two 2024 37,000 GVW single axle trucks with dump/sander/plow as shown below:

The trucks are budgeted in FY24 using Street Maintenance Funds.  The budget is sufficient to purchase the two trucks.
