RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends purchasing two (2) automated side load trucks in the amount of $757,162 including trades, four (4) front load trucks in the amount of $1,536,500 including trades, and two (2) rear load trucks in the amount of $718,165.28 from SWS Equipment, LLC for a total of $3,011,827.28.
BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)
Included in the adopted FY25 Equipment Replacement Plan and FY25 budget is the replacement of three (3) side load refuse trucks, five (5) front load refuse trucks and (two) 2 rear load refuse trucks. With these purchases, staff will be trading in 13 existing refuse trucks. Solid waste has retained trucks for the last 3 years longer than usual due to long lead times and our 2023 route optimization project. It is time to right size the fleet and trade these trucks in. Public Works is utilizing a Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract for this purchase as pricing is similar to competitive bid pricing. One side load truck and one front load truck identified in the FY25 budget were purchased in FY24 due to the availability of trucks.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may:
- Approve the purchase with SWS Equipment, LLC. for $3,011,827.28 or,
- Not approve the purchase. If the purchase is not approved, the fleet will continue to age and maintenance costs will continue to increase.
FISCAL EFFECTS
The trucks are budgeted in FY25 using Solid Waste funds. There is sufficient budget for this purchase.
