The Parks, Recreation, and Public Lands (PRPL) Department seeks City Council approval to purchase a 60’ x 40’ shade structure for the Coulson Park North/South Improvements project. This structure will be procured from GameTime c/o Great Western Recreation through the NASPO cooperative purchasing program at a cost of $110,680.00.

The Coulson Park North/South Improvements project includes multiple enhancements to the park, funded in part by a Natural Resource Damage Program (NRDP) grant. The purchase of this shade structure was previously identified in the Council-approved contract award memo dated January 27, 2025. The installation of the structure is included in the contractor’s project bid, ensuring no additional construction costs.

The City Council may:
Approve the purchase, allowing the project to proceed as planned and improving park amenities.
Not Approve the purchase, which would negatively impact park usability and visitor experience.

Funding will be provided by the allotted funds currently being held by PRPL and donated funds from an NRDP grant. These are accepted funds from flooding in 2018. Any additional work that may be added to the installation of the structure should be handled in the allotted time that a park employee is already onsite.  There is no expectation to hire any FTEs.
