RECOMMENDATION

PRPL requests City Council consent to award a contract to Dakota Playground for playground fall protection installation.  PRPL will utilize a Sourcewell state purchasing agreement with Dakota Playground.  The contract amount is $200,000.  This includes all material and labor.

BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)

The Landon's Legacy Foundation's intent is to develop an accessible and inclusive playground at Poly Vista Park to complete phase 2 of the development plan.  The City of Billings has actively came alongside Landon's Legacy in a private/public partnership to ensure individuals who have disabilities have full access to playground equipment.

ALTERNATIVES

City Council may:
  • Approve the installation of fall protection by Dakota Playground or Not Approve which will lead to an incomplete playground that will be unsafe to use.

FISCAL EFFECTS

The fall protection material and installation will be done through a Sourcewell State Purchasing Contract.  Funding in the amount of $200,000 was approved and set aside in the CIP2025 budget previously approved by City Council.  PRPL does not expect to hire any FTEs.  Any additional work that maybe incurred because of the new amenities should be handled in the allotted time in which a park employee is already onsite.
