PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
A review of the existing Animal ordinance by the staff and the Animal Control Board has resulted in the submittal of these recommended changes. The last changes made to the Animal Ordinance were approved by City Council on January 11, 2010. The proposed amendments deal with several issues, but primarily dog and cat sheltering, animal abuse or neglect and dangerous or potentially dangerous animals. Council is being asked to conduct a public hearing and approve first reading of the proposed ordinance.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
Council may:
- Approve the ordinance as presented.
- Not approve Ordinance as presented.
- Delay action and table until a future meeting.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The financial impact should be a slight revenue increase for Dangerous Dog registrations.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends City Council approve the changes to the Animal Ordinance.
