RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends City Council approval of the purchase of one (1) 2027 Single Axle Truck and Chassis from I-State Truck Center, in the amount of $104,142.00.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This is for the purchase of one Single Axle Truck and Chassis at a cost of $104,142 which is within the approved FY26 budget of $229,576. Staff recommends procurement through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing agreement.

BACKGROUND (Consistency with Adopted Plans and Policies, if applicable)

The purchase of one (1) Single Axle Truck and Chassis is included in the approved FY26 Equipment Replacement Plan (ERP) and FY26 Street and Traffic Budget.  This truck is an important part of our paving program as it carries tools, equipment and large skid steer attachments.  City staff will transfer the current service body to the new truck and the replaced unit will be handed down to the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) trainer and used to help new employees obtain their Class A CDLs.  Staff recommends procuring the equipment through the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing agreement as pricing is comparable to a competitive bid.

FISCAL EFFECTS

The Single Axle Truck and Chassis was budgeted in FY26 using Street Maintenance Funds.  The amount budgeted for the truck was $229,576.  There is adequate budget for this purchase and the savings on this equipment will be used to cover budget shortfalls on other equipment.

STAKEHOLDERS

ALTERNATIVES

  • Approve purchasing the Single Axle Truck and Chassis; or,
  • Not approve the purchase.  If not approved, crews will continue the inefficient loading and unloading of equipment and driving to and from the shop to share the truck with the CDL trainer.  The truck is likely to see increased repair costs and downtime as the truck is 25 years old.  Extended downtime will result in diminished service levels.
