PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
All of the private utilities in the alley between North Broadway and North 29th Street are being relocated in order to construct the new library. City Council and the City Administrator have approved agreements with MDU, Northwestern Energy, Integra, and Optimum to relocate their utilities. Century Link needs to relocate their utilities from the alley. Century Link has agreed to donate the value of removing their facilities. The cost of installing the new service will be part of the customer agreement with the new library. The estimated cost for removal is $15,000.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The Council may:
- Accept donation from Century Link to remove their utility at an estimated cost of $15,000; or
- Do no accept the donation from Century Link which would require the City to pay Century Link to remove their lines.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact with acceptance of the donation from Century Link to remove their utility from the alley.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council approve the donation from Century Link, valued at $15,000, to remove their utility from the alley in order to construct the new library.
