PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT
The Montana Mental Health Settlement Trust (MMHST) has awarded the City of Billings a grant for a multi-disciplinary team to attend crisis intervention training (CIT). The goals of the MMHST grant are to train and educate law enforcement personnel concerning effective and appropriate crises intervention techniques and resources. The grant, in the amount of $7,910, will fund seven members of the CIT team to attend the CIT international conference. The training will take place August 20th through August 22nd.
ALTERNATIVES ANALYZED
The City Council may:
- Accept the Montana Mental Health Settlement Trust Grant of $7,910; or
- Not accept the Montana Mental Health Settlement Trust Grant of $7,910 which would result in members not attending the training, thus making the future of crisis intervention training less geared toward assisting adults with mental illness.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no financial impact to the City as there is no City match required for this grant.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the Montana Mental Health Settlement Trust Grant in the amount of $7,910 for the period of August 20, 2012, to August 22, 2012 and allow the Mayor to sign the Grant Agreement.
